Our Story
The Canine Way (formerly known as Dogs Way Dog Training), located in Brooklyn Park, Minnesota, was founded with the vision of helping owners understand their dog’s behavior to help mold a better relationship with you and your canine. Our training style is behavior-based that practices nurturing the mind to be more in tune to handle different environments and situations in a safe and calm matter. But ultimately trusting and respecting the owner’s decisions. We are equipped to help all owners and canines from different walks of life, and strive to support you and your family in understanding the stress-free way of owning a dog.
Meet the Team

Lynn Smoliak
Trainer & Owner
I started out working with horses. Learning and understanding their herd dynamics was a big part of being able to make sense of how they communicated. I was able to apply the knowledge to my way of teaching and communicating with them. I had many hands-on experiences with horses that had behavior issues and helped build trust and understanding, which in turn nurtured a great relationship between rider and horse. I transferred that to watching and observing pack dynamics and how dogs communicated with one another. What they found appropriate and inappropriate, and then applying that to the way I communicated with them. Seeing that they are all social beings similar to humans is what makes our type of training so different. I have been working with dogs professionally for over six years, but honestly have been working with them all of my life. The BEST part of my job is when one of my clients has their “aha” moment. I can’t describe how amazing it feels to see them get excited and feel empowered as they become more and more confident in themselves and their relationship with their dog. Educating people is so important to me. To teach them how to communicate to their canine in a more understanding way that nurtures their instinct to follow. Which, in turn, brings harmony to their pack. I anticipate the opportunity to have you work with my team and me.”
